Hair Transplants

Since Elton John decided some years ago to do something to reverse his hair loss problem, hair transplants have become increasingly popular, especially in the U.S. However, despite their popularity, there still seems to be some level of intrigue surrounding them. If you are considering hair transplantation as an option to treat your hair loss or thinning hair, then you will want to know as much as possible about the process.

A hair transplant basically involves moving some hair from what is called the permanent hair location, to the area of the head that is experiencing the thinning or balding. This permanent hair source is generally located around the back and sides of the head as this is generally where the least hair loss occurs.

Although with older transplant techniques even with successful operations, it sometimes remained very noticeable that someone had undergone a cosmetic hair process, with todays’ new hair transplant techniques, you should be left with a completely natural looking hair-line. This means that unless someone knew you before you completed the transplant process, they shouldn’t be able to spot that you have had a hair transplant.

Most people are suitable to be considered for hair transplants although it is unusual for a hair transplant process to be carried out on someone very young. In addition, some surgeons

prefer for other avenues to have been explored first before a hair transplant is considered, in particular for people with mild or moderate hair loss.

Although most people think of hair transplants as occurring on your scalp, - and indeed that is the issue that has been explored here so far – it is possible for hair transplants to be used on other parts of your body. For example it could be used to restore eyebrows if an accident has stopped their re-growth in parts. It can also be used to cover scars from previous surgery and for men, could even be used to fill in a beard.

However when considering a hair transplant as a potential option to treat your hair thinning or hair loss, you need to remember it is still a form of surgery. Like with all surgery, there is a risk associated with it and you need to be clear about these risks before beginning the process. Furthermore, results can never be predicted to an absolute level of certainty, and it may be that you need to undergo several surgical operations in order to get the result you are want.

If you want to find out more details about hair transplants and your suitability for this process, ask your doctor, or you may wish to contact a person who is a qualified member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery to request further information and an assessment.
