Anxiety Disorder
Anxiety disorder afflictions affect about 40 million American adults each year. The various disorder symptoms can cause sufferers to be filled with fear and uncertainty. Ordinary, mild but brief forms of can be caused by a stressful event such as speaking in public or even a first date. The feelings caused by this reaction will fade away a few hours after such an event has finished. For an disorder on the other hand, feelings can last for at least 6 months and they can get worse if they not treated in time.
There are many different medications and therapies available for the treatment of an disorder, just as there are many different types of disorders. The six most common ones are panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder which is also known as OCD, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social phobia or social disorder, specific phobias, and generalized disorder or GAD. Each of these disorders has different symptoms, but all of the symptoms include excessive, irrational fear and dread.
Panic disorder is where you feel panic, terror and feelings of helplessness. With this condition the feelings can be triggered by a simple act or memory that has no relation to where you are. This disorder is compounded by the fact that you’re continually wondering when the next panic attack will occur.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is where the sufferer must complete a set of rituals or behavioral sequence
without any disturbance. Should they be disturbed or interrupted they will stop what they are currently doing and then repeat the sequence from the very beginning.
Post-traumatic stress disorder can affect anyone. This disorder is triggered by a traumatic event. In general people will talk about the trauma they’ve suffered, but those who don’t or can’t for various reasons, will bottle their feelings up until it becomes too much. Then when something triggers that traumatic memory their fear and will manifest itself in the form of PTSD.
Social phobia is an disorder that centers on feelings of intense humiliation and the fear of being placed in embarrassing situations from which you’re unable to extract yourself. Since such a situation may have the potential to cause an attack or a panic attack you will try and avoid this type of situation.
GAD sufferers are prone to chronic worrying. They will worry endlessly over the smallest thing. This habit will generally continue for longer periods than is necessary and they may spend many sleepless nights and hours in their preoccupied state of mind.
Generally speaking if you suffer from PTSD or GAD or any other disorder you can be treated and cured and this becomes especially easier if the disorder is caught in its early stages. If you think you suffer from an disorder seek help immediately and live an free life – it really doesn’t get any simpler than that.
